The game fails to launch on my Intel MacBook Pro because of a bug introduced in LWJGL 3.3.2. The Launcher starts the java process, but the game and its UI never appear. Java ends up being flagged as "Not Responding," requiring a force-quit to end the process.
An older version of the game (1.20.1) ships with LWJGL version 3.3.1 build 7 and it works fine. This version of LWJGM last shipped with Minecraft snapshot 23w33a.
More recent versions of the game (1.20.2 and beyond) ship with more recent versions of LWJGL (3.3.2+13 and 3.3.3+5) and fail to launch properly. The first version shipping with the problematic LWJGL was Minecraft snapshot 23w35a.
For confirmation of this diagnosis, I used an alternative launcher (Prism Launcher) to force the latest version of Minecraft (1.21.4) to use the older LWJGL (3.3.1 build 7), and the game worked normally. Incrementing LWJGL beyond 3.3.1 build 7 would consistently trigger the "failure to launch" issue.
I don't call this a crash, per se, since there's no crash log - Minecraft Java Edition just stops responding and no new entries appear in the log file after the log entry that reads:
"MinecraftJavaLoggingContext.cpp(65)] Game/flk (Render thread) Info Backend library: LWJGL version XXXXX"
When I force-quit the application, the logging continues and shows an error code "143".
I reported this at the time in MC-267285, where it was incorrectly flagged as a technical support issue.
