According to the Bedrock Edition 1.21.50.26 Preview changelog:

All trees can now grow through leaves, with the exception of Cherry trees cannot grow through their own leaves

Steps to reproduce:

1. Place down a cherry sapling and cherry leaves on top of it
2. Bone meal the cherry sapling a few times

Observed result:
The sapling grows up into a cherry tree.

Expected result:
The cherry sapling does not grow through cherry leaves.
