The bug
When converting redstone repeaters and comparators to the block model system in 1.8, the torches were initially incorrectly defined as simple cuboids, causing MC-50242. This was fixed in the next snapshot for lit torches, but has persisted to the modern day in the case of unlit torches.
How to reproduce
A resource pack that turns unlit redstone torches blue is attached to this ticket.
- Download this resource pack
- Load up any version from 1.6 to 1.7.10 and apply this resource pack
- Observe how unpowered redstone repeaters and comparators look
- Apply the same resource pack to 1.21.2
- Compare how the torches look
Expected results
The way the unpowered torches look would be the same as in 1.7.10 and earlier.
Actual results
It is not.
How to fix
Also attached to this report is a resource pack that fixes the affected repeater and comparator models. Applying both resource packs simultaneously returns the correct, pre-1.8 look. I give Mojang full permission to use these models to fix this issue.
Further notes
For 1.21.2 onwards this fix should only touch the Programmer Art resource pack.
