The bug
If an item which can be eaten is given the model of air via commands, the particles produced upon eating it will be that of the missing texture.
The missing texture should only appear if there is an issue with the currently active resource pack, so the fact that it can arise here without the need of any resource packs is a problem.
How to reproduce
/give @s cookie[item_model="minecraft:air"]
- Bon appetit
Expected results
Eating this would either produce no particles at all, or produce particles not associated with the missing texture.
Actual results
Eating this produces particles from the missing texture.
How to fix
A resource pack that fixes this issue entirely is attached to this ticket. I give Mojang full permission to use any assets from this resource pack to fix this issue if such permission is required. This pack also fixes MC-270529, which arises for much the same reason.
