Minecraft only checks if the java version is equal for the one it needs to work, It should check if the version number is bigger or equal because someone can have Java 21 and not be able to play (for example) Minecraft 1.8 which uses Java 8. This official Minecraft launcher automatically downloads the "correct" version, which means there technically aren't any issues but it installs different Java versions for no reason. When using a different launcher (such as Prism), when you try to use a newer version of the Java Runtime Environment it returns an error that minecraft requires a specific version.
