Relates to MC-272780.
The bug
In some cases, throwing an ender pearl through a nether portal will correctly result in the ender pearl crossing into the other dimension, but not actually landing in said dimension. The player must then go through the portal themselves or otherwise load the chunks around the portal for the pearl to actually land.
How to reproduce
- Build a portal in the Overworld in an open area
- Throw an ender pearl through the Nether side of this portal in an upwards trajectory and with extra speed
- Observe
Expected results
Shortly after throwing the pearl, it would land, taking the player to its destination across dimensions.
Actual results
It may not.
How to fix
Making ender pearl entities with active portal cooldown forcibly load chunks may fix this problem.
