When placing a minecart on a rail that's positioned forward and break the rail, the minecart doesn't seem to change position. But then place the rail to the left side or right side, and place the minecart on the left side on the rail or right side and break the rail, it will change it's position all of a sudden.

How to reproduce

Obtain a rail and a minecart.

Place a rail on the right or left side and place the minecart on the rail.

Break the rail and observe, you will notice that the minecart changes position, this doesn't seem to happen when the rail is positioned forward.

Observations: When break a right or left placed rail the minecart on top of the rail will change it's position.
Expectations: Nothing should happen and the minecart should stay still or slightly move since a forward placed rail doesn't seem to move the minecart.
