Maps, Parity
May relate to MC-265265.
The bug
In light of 24w12a's recent updates to map icons, it's probably worth pointing out that Java Edition is currently missing some map icons that are present in Bedrock Edition. To my knowledge, at least some of these were added recently enough to constitute a valid parity issue.
Even if these icons aren't obtainable via survival gameplay, they can still be added for custom purposes, as maps can use any desired icon through the use of commands, as is currently the case for decorations such as target_point and target_x. This is what happened for the four elemental paintings; despite not being obtainable normally, they were still implemented into Java Edition for commands/mapmaker use.
Missing icons
The following is a table of the currently Bedrock-exclusive icons, alongside suggested IDs for each:
Suggested ID | |
---|---|
cyan_marker | |
orange_marker | |
pink_marker | |
yellow_marker | |
red_cross | |
item_frame | |
other_structure |
How to obtain these icons
Check the current resources for Bedrock Edition - they should be available in the map_icons.png spritesheet. Since map icons have been recently resized to 16x16, I ripped these from an older version, but they should still be otherwise visually identical.
