Items with can_break/can_place_on components update every time the inventory is changed in creative mode

      1. Give yourself an item with one of these components. For instance: 
        /give @s minecraft:diamond_pickaxe[minecraft:can_place_on={blocks:'minecraft:short_grass'}]
      2. Hold the item, and make sure you're in creative mode.
      3. Observe how the item change animation plays in your hand every time you open your inventory, and every time you move something in your inventory.
