Save Data
A player on my server had 2 chunks in his base that were filled with "9 months of unsorted shulkers inside double chests". Recently he logged on to find that these chunks had disappeared. I was perplexed for a while as when I had gone into the backup to load up the region file these chunks were in, the chunks were also gone on that file too. So then I found out that minecraft will save chunks into a file called c.xx.xx.mca if the chunks get to large (when a player fills a chunk with tons of data like shulker boxes etc). So i found the corresponding .mcc file from a backup from before his chunks reset. I copied those files along with the region file from that backup into a test server and loaded it up and those chunks are still missing when I load into the world. In the region/ directory I can see that minecraft deletes those .mcc files every time the server starts up. This is very weird.
This was originally happening on a Purpur server, but then I reproduced it on a Vanilla server and the same thing happened.
Files: (The region file was too large to attach.)
