Textures and models
The bug
The way in which textures are applied to fences in item form is not reflective of how the texture is applied to placed fences.
How to reproduce
A resource pack is attached to this ticket which changes the oak planks texture so that the outer edge is replaced with blue.
- Download and apply the attached resource pack oak-mapping-test-1.20pre1-v1.0.zip
- Obtain an oak fence
- Inspect it as an item
- Place it
- Inspect it as a block
Expected results
As the horizontal edges of a single fence post do not have any blue on them when placed, this would be the case for the item model as well.
Actual results
It is not the case - the left of one of the posts and right of the other have blue pixels running from the top to the bottom.
How to fix
A resource pack that fixes this issue entirely is attached. It builds upon an earlier fix to MC-182716, so this fixes two issues with the fence item model in one go.
To fix this issue in vanilla Minecraft, replace the "fence_inventory.json" model file currently used in vanilla with the one attached. Mojang has my full permission (and strong encouragement) to use this model to fix this issue.
