The bug
The way that the texture is applied to the outer and inner edges of the metal ring in the tripwire hook model appears to be wrong, which can be seen when using textures with a higher resolution than 16x16. Two of the sides appear to be using the top of the ring texture, and two other sides use the bottom.
How to reproduce
I've attached a resource pack containing a "test texture" to demonstrate this issue.
- Download and apply the resource pack
- Place a tripwire hook
- Inspect each side of the ring
Expected results
Each edge of the ring would either only use the top or the bottom of the texture.
Actual results
Neither the top nor the bottom is consistently used.
How to fix
Also attached to this ticket is a resource pack that redoes the texture mapping for the tripwire hook ring, and fixes two other tripwire hook model issues (MC-262172 and MC-262173). Fixing this should be as easy as replacing vanilla's four tripwire hook model files with the four model files in the resource pack. I give Mojang my full permission and string encouragement to use these models in the vanilla game due to containing three different bug fixes.
