Explanation/demonstration video: https://youtu.be/tKV9orGImDc
The F3 debug pie chart does not update to reflect the block entities that are being rendered within the game, unless if the player save & quits the game and rejoins the world, or exits/re-enters the dimension via a nether portal, for versions 1.17.1 to 1.19.3.
The issue with the pie chart incorrectly displaying the rendered block entities can be divided into the following versions: 1.16.5 and older, 1.17.0, and 1.17.1-1.19.3.
Versions 1.16.5 and older do not have this issue and give expected behavior. Normally, block entities disappear from the pie chart when you 1) reduce render distance by 4 chunks from the distance when the block entity appears, 2) enter a different dimension (e.g. between the overworld and the nether), or 3) exit and relog into the world. These three behaviors are demonstrated in this video above.
Version 1.17.0 is bugged in that none of the above three actions remove the block entity from the pie chart. Even when you create a new random world, the block entities from the previous world still show up on the current world's pie chart.
Version 1.17.1 seems to have fixed 2) and 3), but un-rendering the chunks the block entity was located in does not remove it from the pie chart. This bug persists from version 1.17.1 to 1.19.3. In the demonstration video, I included both versions 1.17.1 and 1.19.3 to show that this issue has persisted since version 1.17.1.
All tests and video demonstrations were ran on vanilla Minecraft.
