I am not able to connect to a multiplayer server my friend is hosting.

For some odd reason when I put in the server address and click ok to get in, I get a connecting screen for about a minute, then I get an 'error log' that says "Failed to connect to server. Connection timed out: no further information".

I've had some people try to help me (Friends) and they have sent me links to websites that are giving solutions to the problem I ran into. A different friend had a similar problem and followed these steps that the websites gave and they were able to fix it, but for some unfortunate reason I am not able to get over it myself.

I have restarted my computer, my Wi-Fi, and my friend who is currently running the server has even restarted the server and we are still unable to find out why I cannot connect. We've made sure that the server address is put in properly, I've made sure to delete all mods that could be causing a problem because they are running a vanilla server and nothing is working.

If anyone could give me some easy directions as to why this is happening and/ or how to fix it, that would be much appreciated.
