      Bug:

If the player falls for 123 or 239 block onto a waterlogged chest, the player will take fall damage. The bug impacts chests, trapped chests, and end chests. The bug only impacts players.

      Expectation:

Falling on a waterlogged chest should prevent fall damage when landed on, regardless of fall distance.

      Steps to Reproduce:

      • Open any Minecraft world in survival mode.
      • Place a chest flush with the floor.
      • Waterlog the chest.
      • Build a pillar of 123 or 239 blocks high.
      • Walk off the pillar (do no jump).
      • Free fall until hitting the waterlogged chest. Ensure you hit the chest, and not another block.

      Images show:

Area used to test fall heights (-63 to 324), pillars of 123 and 239 blocks (alternating colours every 5 blocks), player at top of the 123 pillar, player falling, and player death message, chest position relative to the pillar.

Note the position on the chest and cause of death.

      Important notice:

Make sure you're at exactly the right height when replicating. There should be 123 (239) blocks between the bottom of the player's feet and the top of the chest. To replicate, please make certain you have an exactly 123 block pillar built and the player is standing on top of it, and the chest is in the floor. A world displaying the concept has been added. 2022-02-03_03-15-30_Chest Fall Height Bug.zip This world has been tested in 1.18.1 and snapshot 22w05a

      Discovery and Testing:

I first discovered the bug in a 1.18.1 Hardcore world after falling down a 123 block hole onto a waterlogged chest, and dying. I then copied the design into another world, and noticed I didn't die when I jumped first. I then created a test world to figure out what heights were affected. I tested falling down to a waterlogged chest at y -64. The heights tested were from y -63 to y 324. This world is the attached world above.
