Chests don't animate or make sound after opening and getting out of reach

The chest can be used, but doesn't show the opening or closing animation and doesn't play the sounds.

Expected behavior: Either the chest would stay open until the player closes the chest and this strange behavior wouldn't occur, or it would automatically close when the player gets out of reach (it seems this is the cause of the bug: it closes when you're out of reach - I hear and see it close - but you still are accessing its inventory).

How to make the bug happen: Place a chest and do some movement where you open it, then get out of reach of the chest after you've opened it, then close it. After that, the bug occurs. An easy way to do it is to place a chest just high enough that you can only reach it by jumping. Jump to open the chest, and when you fall back down, you'll be out of reach. Close it and the bug occurs.

This happens in both creative and survival mode. It happens with chests, trapped chests, ender chests, and barrels, but not with shulker boxes. I can't tell if it happens (or if it could happen) with things like droppers, because those don't make any sound or animation when its inventory is interacted with by the player.

Normally, opening or closing a barrel will be detected by an observer (also, that's an inconsistency, because chests don't get detected. IMO, both should be detected), but this is where the bug stops being just visual/sound: The observer no longer detects you opening or closing the barrel. I haven't noticed any "ghost" items or anything like that, but that sort of thing might happen given that it seems the server doesn't think it is being used. Similarly, trapped chests don't output a signal when opened while in this glitched state.

Making the chest a double chest is very weird. If you make it a double chest by placing a chest on the right (NOT directional), the double chest remains silent, but the animation plays. If you make it a double chest by placing a chest on the left, it acts normal. If you change it back to a single chest by removing the chest you added, it remains gliched. If you started the bug with a double chest and you break either chest, the other will remain glitched, and acts like it the bug was started with that single chest.
