The generic sound effects for placing various blocks seem to have static after playback.
If you listen carefully and place a block with the stone sound effect (e.g: cobblestone) you can hear static in the quiet portion of the effect.
To illustrate:
you hear: *plop -> little bit of silence -> static"
Replacing the sound effects with a resource pack does not have the same issue so a playback issue can probably be ruled out, this leads me to believe it's a source issue with the .ogg files.
Figured it could be my setup so i tested it on both Linux and Windows, both openjdk 17.
Also tested it on an external dac (apple usb-c -> 3.5mm converter) and on my onboard audio, both have the same issue. To further rule out hardware failure i tested with multiple headphones (Audio technica ath m50x and an akg k371), on both i could hear the static.
This almost confirms to me that it's a source issue.
So far this issue is present on the following placement sounds:
- Generic stone (cobble, granite, stone, etc)
- Generic wood (planks, etc)
- Generic dirt (dirt, etc)
It seems to be present on some generic breaking sounds aswell.
I think it might also be caused by sudden stop of playback, although i'd expect it to be present on more sound effects aswell.
Snapshot 21w43a has the same issue aswell.
It's also audible on the fandom wiki if you play the sound effect.
Tested on both java 16 and java 17, both have the issue.
Update 05/11/2021
Video demonstrating the issue with debug screen as asked below:
Turn your volume up a bit, it's most audible when placing dirt.
Something i noticed whilst recording: the static seems to occur when the sounds counter decreases.
