I also noticed this in the previous snapshot (21w39a).

Azalea trees appear to spawn a few blocks off the ground, with a rooted dirt attached to the bottom, and rooted dirt below it in the ground leading to lush caves.

I have only provided one screenshot, but I've noticed this occurring multiple times.
