Water sources are not updating after world gen

What I expected to happen was...:
I expected naturally generated water falls to disappear after I removed the source blocks. I expected the water source I placed down with a water bucket to flow outward.

What actually happened was...:
Neither water source updated. Water falls remain flowing down in the air after I removed the source and water sources placed down with a bucket remained a single block.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Attain water bucket
2. Place water
