Minecraft will crash while running OBS in several different ways. These crashes all happen while the game is running and being screen captured by OBS game capture.
They are:
1. Tabbing out from fullscreen Minecraft to a different window.
This can happen using any way to switch windows in Windows 10. Alt-Tab, track pad gestures, or shortcut keys.
2. Successfully tabbing out of fullscreen Minecraft, but crashing when tabbing back in.
Same as number 1. Tabbing back into the game through any means may crash.
3. Pressing the windows key to show desktop or opening any window with shortcut keys.
I have shortcut keys assigned through the Start Menu in Windows. Pressing these combos and having a window pop-up while Minecraft is fullscreen and OBS is open will cause the crash. This will also happen for any other window that pops-up and shows on top.
4. Having Minecraft running and switching Scenes in OBS (full screen or windowed).
Having successfully gotten out of game without a crash, switching scenes from a scene that shows screen capture to another that doesn't causes the crash. This happens when OBS unloads/loads the screen capture for Minecraft.
5. Pressing F11 to exit or enter fullscreen mode.
This is explained further below.
These crashes do not always happen- but they are pretty frequent when using OBS. This happens when Minecraft is being screen captured by OBS game capture and showing on the OBS application preview. The preview does not need to be enabled, or "showing", to cause the crash. Just active, or switching from active to inactive and vice versa. Crashes do seem to occur more often the longer the game runs. I have included two crash logs and the launcher log.
The first crash log is from sitting in game for a while and switching scenes in OBS. OBS was not actively streaming or recording, but had the preview open showing Minecraft's screen capture.
The second log is from alt-tabbing from Minecraft to OBS and experiencing the crash.
I can usually skirt around the crashing issue by running Minecraft in windowed mode and going full screen after switching windows and doing whatever I need to do. Exiting full screen by using F11 will sometimes also cause the crash, but it is very rare and I do not have the report for it. OBS causes the crash while running normally or as admin.
Thank You.
