When playing java version in windowed mode it is possible to open the recipe book but be unable to close it due to the recipes GUI overlapping the recipe book icon that is responsible for closing the recipes GUI. To do this open a world in windowed mode. Then make the window narrow. I am playing on a laptop screen and can get this affect when Minecraft takes the left side of my screen and the right side is opened to write this ticket. When in this narrow window, open the recipe book. The available recipes GUI will open on top of the normal player inventory. There is no way to close this GUI without selecting the recipe book icon, which while in this narrow window mode is behind the available recipes GUI. The only solution is expand the width of the window in order to close out of the GUI in the game. This fully breaks the emersion of the game by being forced to leave the game just to close an in game menu.
