My bed in my survival world is up on a hill, very far away from any uncontrolled land that would be capable of spawning a hostile mob. I went in spectator, with F3+B to show hitboxes, so as to be sure beyond any doubt. There were no hostile mobs whatsoever in a 2 chunk radius. Despite this, the bed gave the "You may not sleep; monsters nearby" prompt every time I attempted to sleep.
