In certain areas (I am unsure as to whether it is specific to some chunks or specific to certain XYZ values), pistons that were powered by powering a Redstone line on top of the block above the piston remain powered once that Redstone line is unpowered.  It appears to happen in all directions, and makes some Redstone difficult. Pistons appear to sometimes unpower after a long period of time.
