While trying to map my world and keep track of which map is of which chunk in relation to one another I have found that after placing them in item frames and then removing them for more scouting that at times they no longer show my position relative to the map location despite having shown it just fine prior to the item frame usage. This as you can imagine makes it extremely difficult to use as I then lose my point of reference thus nullifying the benefits of bringing the map with me as I go to make more maps. The empty maps have mostly been purchased from a cartographer and function as compass maps upon initial use, as far as I can tell the glitch happens after the map's interaction with an item frame and subsequent retrieval. If I recall correctly it doesn't happen every time, but it has happened more than once. Unsure if rotating the map while in the item frame is or is not a factor as such actions were unintentional and I've been going through maps by the dozen trying to map out my surrounding area
