Minecraft skin not changing from default

      So I played the demo and I was alex i thought it was ok considering that it is a default and you cannot change your skin in a demo and I was like ok cool. Then I bought Minecraft Java edition and my skin that I imported it says I am wearing but in the game I am Alex. I also tried turning into steve and I was still Alex!
