I have an automated dispenser system for my chicken coop, to hatch new chicks by whipping eggs into the coop. I used a redstone torch burnout sort of system to completely automate a rapid dispenser thingy, and hoppers to keep it full, and a switch to turn it on or off. 

My issue? If it runs out of eggs I can hear the incessant "clicking" sound that it is empty, halfway across the map. Meaning, I've made an automated egg hatching system, that I still have to remain near enough so that I'm not driven insane by a rapid clicking noise when I'm over 100 blocks away.
