I was testing and mobs were spawning on slime blocks. I tested that further by creating a super flat world mad of slime blocks. I turned it to midnight and mobs started to spawn. I don't know if mobs are supposed to spawn on slime blocks but I'd mention because I heard mobs can't spawn on slime blocks.
