If you go into creative mode, fly and sprint at the same time, then sneak you will notice that the player does not slow down like it should, and instead goes at the same speed forward. Unlike sprint flying then holding space where the player goes at the same speed altogether, in this scenario the player stays at the same speed going forward in addition to the speed going down, meaning the player is actually going slightly faster.
