If you set an item frame fixed and have it floating without a block behind it, if you try to shoot it with an arrow, it becomes invisible. The arrow can still hit you, causing an arrow to appear on your player, but if the arrow "lands", it plays the noise but does not appear anywhere on the ground. Hitboxes show nothing.
