I have built a large village on a Realm world consisting of the structures that generate in naturally generated villagers so that there is one of each job site block (with the exception of composters (2), brewing stands (3), looms (2) and lecterns (3)). The villagers with jobs, all of which are traded with as soon as a desirable trade is available, will frequently (around every 3-5 in-game days) abandon their job site block to wander the village aimlessly.
There are more beds available than there are villagers and the entire village has been lit so mobs do not spawn, so the villagers are not being killed off or scared away from their job site. The same villagers who abandoned their job sites are easily located as they seem to gather either in the center of the village, similar to the mechanic where unemployed villagers gather around the village center structure, or in an area I made of cobblestone, cobblestone walls and fence gates which is inaccessible to players without using the fence gates so I am unaware of how they are able to enter.
The villagers will return to their job if they are collected in a boat and moved to the area their job site block is and the block is broken and replaced so as to free it up for them to use again.
