After unlocking the recipes for Netherite, they have remained shown as craft-able recipes at all times, even when the smithing table interface isn't open and the ingots are tucked away in a chest elsewhere.

Other possible relevant info:

• I don't currently own any diamond equipment which could be upgraded
• I've yet to craft any recipes which use netherite ingots
