Right clicking a bed to sleep while flying in with an elytra (a "drive-by sleeping," if you will), causes the player to sleep but visually slide off of the bed. My bed is right next to an ocean, and when this happens my player sinks all the way to the bottom. This is solely visual, as after the night passes I am put on the solid block next to the bed.
