I play in adventure mode, single-player. Yesterday was normal (unfortunately I don't know what version I was using yesterday). Today I found unexpectedly that I could not place a block using right-click; ordinarily I can. Nor would left-clicking a tree while holding an axe result in more than one swing; in the past it would. And the swing would not hit! It hit before.

In essence, while in adventure mode the "place block" action merely wields an item in the off hand (my shield) and the "attack" action swings whatever is in my main hand once but without hitting anything, even if I hold the attack action.

This is weird and naturally I suspected the mouse had gone wrong or I had unwittingly changed something.

      Things I checked:

      1. Is the mouse working fine? I can left- and right-click in other applications as expected, such as Safari and SketchUp Pro, so the mouse seems to be working.
      2. Did my control settings change in Minecraft? I didn't knowingly change them, and they don't appear any different than before.
        1. Attack is left click, as before
        2. Pick is middle button, as before
        3. Place is right button, as before
        4. Touchscreen, invert, and discrete scrolling are all off, as before.
        5. Sensitivity is 100% as before.
      3. Can I do "normal" things, like place blocks, destroy blocks, etc. in creative mode? I dropped into creative mode briefly and yes, I can right-click to place a block in creative mode, and I can left-click to destroy a block in creative mode, as before.
      4. Odd facts:
        1. I can "attack" to hit a pig or a chicken, but cannot hit a tree.
        2. "Place" on a chest opens the chest, as before. "Place" on a door opens the door, as before. Etc.
        3. "Place on an inventory item halves the stack, as before.
        4. "Attack" while holding an item in inventory drops it into an inventory slot, as before.

So it seems MANY behaviors are working as expected but not all. I'm a bit at a loss here as to what might be wrong. it seems weirdly specific.

      Expected behavior:

      1. Left-click "attack" swings the item in my main hand, hitting a stationary object in range and repeatedly doing so if held.
      2. Right-click "place" places a block held in my main hand.

      Actual behavior:

      1. Left-click "attack" swings the item in my main hand, but does not hit an object in range and thus swings only once, ineffectually.
      2. Right-click "place" does not place a block held in my main hand but instead wields the item in my off hand.
