When changing to any english (except pirate english..arrr) the language displays a compressed, unknown language.

No game play issue, just cannot read any text unless on English Pirate.

Deleted Language folder - no change
I have backed-up saves and deleted the entire .minecraft folder and re-installed. - No change
Changing texture pack while in game - no change

Shutting down, removing all Resource Packs,starting Minecraft, then re-adding resource pack corrects issue until Minecraft is restarted again.
