Endermen don't attack endermites

When I spawned endermen and endermites using spawn eggs, enderman don't attack the endermite. I also tried doing the traditional way of spawning an endermite by throwing ender pearls and waiting for an enderman to spawn, but the enderman still doesn't attack the endermite.
