I will be playing (and I've replicated this on both the latest snapshot and the latest release, server and single player world) and periodically crash out of the game. It only occurs when I load up a world. It seems to be a java issue, because I will sometimes receive a different crash error message. The crashes seem to be random, and I don't know what specifically could be causing the issue.

edit: In the environment category it says my operating system is windows 7 although I was just running the game in compatibility mode with windows 7 for this specific crash, changing the compatibility mode doesn't seem to make any difference.
