When I first noticed it I could see the silhouette of a spider off in the distance, showing it was an x-ray. Unfortunately it despawned and I waited several minutes for another mob to spawn there with no luck. Slight movements to right or left on the mouse would make it disappear but when moving the character itself I had to move all the way off the block.
