When eating anything, and switch to another piece of food in your hotbar 3/4 into the eating animation, you'll eat the item you were previously eating, and the item you switched to. If the item you're switching to is mushroom soup or other stews, there's a chance the bowl will dissapear.

To reproduce:

have 2 food items and enough hunger to consume said items

start eating one of them

3/4 of the way into the eating animation switch to the other food item
