While using both hands, seed on the left and bone meal on the right, when a crop is fully grown, left clicking to break the crop and then pressing right click to both plant a new crop and bone meal it but the farm block eventually starts to receive damage, the damage seems to be persistent to some degree, new crops don't update the stat of the block, but trying to break it does reset to damage level 0.
