This only applies to the mining sound, not the block breaking sound.

Players who build farms near their house often turn off the "friendly creatures" sounds, but this comes at the expense of not being able to hear the mining sound in any block breaking process in Java edition 1.14.4.

Magma cubes and slime sounds are also affected by the friendly creatures slider.
