crops "pop out" when next to another crop

i was playing in survival in a new world i was really low on hunger and decided to make a farm and i've noticed while placing some seeds they pop out when next to another one (sometimes) or directly next to a water source block (i only had 1 bucket of water at the time and no other crops "pop out" except for the one that was next to it)
