It is worth leaving the settlement unattended for just a couple of days and its entire population will become extinct, becoming a zombie. In practice, as a rule, they either ignore the presence of monsters altogether, or they are too slow. There are cases when another villagers ran up to the door behind which the villagers were hiding from zombies and, despite the danger, opened the door, trying to hide, and thereby let the monsters in. Perhaps this is due to the reduced range of view of the villagers (according to my feelings, they stopped seeing anything further than 10-16 blocks, which is why they are constantly lost in space)
