Raids
(Edit: It has come to my attention that it was in fact someone else who triggered the Raid. Please disregard this issue.)
It has been a few or several real life days since I have failed to protect a small village from a Bad Omen III raid on Normal. I have since cured about two villagers, have been creating homes for both and one more, and tried to make an artificial grass pathway to guide the villagers away from my bed into the homes. I have never encountered any more pillagers in between this time.
Apparently the Raid's meter carries into this new "village" I've created, and believe (but have yet to test) that the meter will follow me into other naturally spawned or manufactured villages. But because I have killed or despawned the remaining raiders from the previous village an odd couple hundred blocks away, nor am I able to find any of the "2 remaining" mobs eligible for raid involvement in my new village, I fear the meter will never disappear unless I begin a new raid.
