Even at 5x5 it causes a noticeable stutter when the game is loading more chunks. This is more noticeable on low view distances, where walking a few blocks will induce stutter.
I tested the same configuration on version 1.13.2 (with no mods) and the problem does not occur. Even at 15x15 biome blend there is no stutter, be at view distance 2 or 32.
Perhaps unrelated, but the same kind of stuttering (like a fraction of a second) also happens when placing or removing torches, maybe the problem has to do with updating individual blocks?
