I have a set up where there is a building with doors located a few blocks off the ground. I have a slab staircase that leads up to the doors. With the slabs there, villagers are unable to path find to the doors (they don't see the way to the doors). When the slabs are removed and it becomes a full block stair case, they are able to find and get to the doors. This also occurs with stairs.
