If you have a block that torch cannot be placed [1] on placed next to other block [2] that torch cannot be placed on you can try placing it on the 2 block and it will be placed on 1 block.

In my example I used door as block 1 and berry bush as block 2. I rightclicked berry bush and Torch has been placed on door as seen on example.

EDIT: __ I tested it on one enviroment, but when I entered creative world i started to experiment with it. I found that the bug that I was writing about didn't worked that way. It's only caused by door. If you Shift+Click you can actually place torch on front page of door. (All types+Iron)
