Since the 1.13 update villagers no longer run for the safety of their houses at sunset but all congregate outside under the window of one house for the entire night subjecting themselves to the danger of mobs. I have yet to witness their behavior once a zombie enters the village. It is now rare to find a villager inside their home during the day or night. I have seen no exceptions to this behavior in 7 or 8 villages.
