I am unsure if this is just a necessary result of the coding. No matter how high you are at when overlooking a drop, Skeletons and Spiders will attempt to target the player even though they might be extremely outside of range.
This isn't a problem in most cases, but in amplified worlds odd mob behavior occurs when overlooking cliffs. Skeletons may end up shooting eachother or other mobs in attempt to hit a player far out of its reach.
A limit does seem to exist for other mobs like zombies or creepers, but it can still seem odd when you are over 60 blocks above them.
