Bubble column directions should probably be switched

    • I don't know much about versions and things, but the wiki page shows the directions ARE this way. It probably applies to any version that can run 1.13. I tested on whatever version I have, and that's what 1.13 does.

Right now, magma block bubble columns make downward currents and soul sand ones make upward currents. This is probably so that players can control movement of entities on water-slides and things they create in BOTH vertical direction, because one pulls down and one pushes up. However, I think they should be swapped; the creation potential wouldn't decrease that way.

If magma vents are supposed to be deep sea vents (they're in ocean ravines, so it's likely), deep sea vents typically have bubbles streaming OUT instead of IN, and hot water rises anyway with convection, so it makes sense that water above a magma block would go up.

The idea with soul sand (I thought) was that it drags you down, slowing you and making you like an eighth of a block lower because the tormented souls (what those faces are) cling to you. That's how it works walking, and maybe it should work that way swimming too.

The danger potential of being pulled irresistibly towards hot magma might go away, which is a con for swapping the directions (you could get burned a little if you're not careful; if you're unlucky you could die by getting stuck in a 1x1 hole unless you dig the sides fast enough), but I think it's better to switch them. Maybe there aren't enough sources of danger with ocean stuff, and having spots in the ocean that'll sink your boat and sources of danger when you're looking around the sea floor are a way to add to that sense of risk-taking adventure.

Also, if we're trying to make it more real, the stream upward from soul sand is too much for a normal convection current, and too long-range. Maybe things are enjoyable enough the normal way.

I guess it's up to the developers whether to go with a probably more fun option (you have to pay attention so you don't sink your boat in the ocean, and be careful around the magma)  or to go with a maybe more scientifically explainable option (which they did when they made turtles go back to their home beaches, and had different fish in different climates).            The extra work to change everything (which might be a relatively small amount because it doesn't require new programs, just moving programs around) could still not be worth the limited difference it makes if it gets swapped.

I think it should be the other way around, but I don't know whether it matters enough to fix.

      P.S.

I'm not very experienced with how things work on this, whether I used proper form, or what constitutes a "bug", but I think it should be switched, and I couldn't get any other options besides a bug for the drop down on the Issue Type thing, and I didn't see anything besides bugs on the bug tracker (but maybe the tracker shows just the ones that ARE bugs). I just came to say something about this after seeing the wiki page. Hopefully it wasn't too messed up.
