I bought this laptop about a month ago and the first thing I did was install Minecraft and created a world and played 5-10 min. The version I ran was 1.12.2, the current version at the time. Everything worked fine.

Yesterday I decided to get on Minecraft again and actually play some, when I discovered that 1.13 had been released. So after updating, I made a new world and explored for a bit, before attempting to play multiplayer only to find that most servers had not been updated yet. No problem, I'll just hop back onto 1.12.2. However, when I ran 1.12.2 again the window stopped responding and crashed the moment the menu appeared after the Mojang screen. This now consistently happens every time I try to run 1.12. I've done all I can with info from the web and solutions to similar problems others have had.

      So far...

I tried running both 1.12.1 and 1.11, but the same thing happens. I have not tried any older versions because I assume the same will happen.

I tried reinstalling Minecraft, both by manually deleting .minecraft and running the launcher again and by using windows to uninstall Minecraft and redownloading the installer.

I tried updating my graphics card drivers, as one post suggested.

      I tried updating/installing Java.

      None of this has worked.

At one point 1.13 was doing the same thing so I had to reinstall the game and am able to play 1.13 again, but it has not helped with 1.12. The new 1.13 update seems to me to be the cause of this issue because I had no trouble running 1.12 a few weeks ago before the update.

      Please help....

(Also btw 1.13 is the only option I can get to work in the "Affects versions" field. Should say at least 1.13, 1.12, 1.11, likely others.

Edit: Please read my comment. (Just editing in case my comment does not send a notification. Not sure if this will either.)

Edit 2: Found my solution, for any who may need it. Minecraft apparently cannot run with discord open. End all discord-related processes.
